Monarchs are unique. They are the only butterfly that migrates to Mexico and returns to the USA each year. Their only host plant, the milkweed, is disappearing from the environment, and much is still unknown about their migration.  A Monarch expert will give a talk and then help us tag some butterflies before they make their long migration and who knows, maybe the butterfly you tag will be the one recovered in Mexico?

Admission is free. Adults are also welcome.
Bring a water bottle and an umbrella.

Calling all kids who love to draw nature! Working from Discovery Boxes filled with seasonal plant and other nature materials, everyone will create a beautiful journal page using words and images. After everyone has selected their subject from the Discovery Box, we will begin with a review of plant structures and then plunge into drawing using techniques that help you to quickly and accurately capture their form and feel. You will learn how to simplify complex structures and explore applying color to your drawing using both watercolor and colored pencils.

All supplies will be supplied by the Williamsburg Botanical Garden and the instructor.

The class is held outdoors: please bring your own sun protection, insect repellent, water, and snacks. Must be accompanied by parent or adult.
